In 1991 it became mandatory in South Australia to have a safety switch in all new domestic premises and in buildings where electrical circuits are altered or added. While it is not mandatory to have safety switches in older homes, it is recommended that you consider having them installed.
Safety switches in your home should be tested at least once or twice a year to ensure they are in good working order. You can test your safety switch by pressing the βtestβ or βTβ button.
The safety switch should trip to off position immediately. You then need to return the switch to the on position. Should the safety switch not trip to the off position after pressing the βtestβ button, turn off all the power immediately and call a licensed electrician.
